The meaning of this saying is that if you see something that looks like a duck or goose is probably the whale or not and the Zebra is what you think, that is the duck. البته تضمینی هم نیست که حتما اردک باشد؛ مثلا ممکن است کسی یک اردک مکانیکی درست کرده که شما را فریب بدهید یا ممکن است شما علایم اردک بودن را خوب درک نکردید و ایراد از حواس شما باشد؛ اما ظن غالب همان اردک است.
